World Cup 2026 Squads: Latest Team List Updates
Updated September 12, 2026Official deadline: June 2, 2026. All 48 nations must submit final squad lists to FIFA by this date. Team pages currently show preliminary squad data where it is available. Use this tracker before June 2 to see which teams already have squad sections, player details, coach content and links into player profiles.
For the first time in World Cup history, 48 nations will participate - up from the 32 team format used between 1998 and 2022. Each nation is allowed a squad of 23 to 26 players, with a mandatory minimum of three goalkeepers. FIFA changed the rules for 2026 to allow a larger pool after logistical lessons from Qatar 2022, where squad size flexibility was tested by COVID era scheduling.
The key rule change that managers need to plan for: if a player suffers an injury or illness before their team's first match, they can be replaced by any player from the preliminary squad - not just the original 26. This means provisional lists of 35-55 players currently being published by federations are genuinely important documents, not just courtesy announcements.
After June 2 - once all official rosters are filed - every team page on this site can switch from squad-tracker mode to the full confirmed squad index with position-by-position breakdowns, club analysis and cap data for each player.
World Cup 2026 Squad Rules: Deadline, 26 Players and Injury Replacements
The official FIFA deadline for all 48 nations to submit their confirmed 26-man squads. Lists after this date are final.
Teams can take a wider 26-player squad to the tournament, but the actual final roster must sit inside this FIFA squad-size window.
Final lists must carry at least three goalkeepers. Squad balance matters regardless of injuries before departure.
Pre-tournament lists can be larger. These are not confirmed World Cup squads.
Injury replacement rule: If a player in the confirmed 26 suffers injury or serious illness before their nation's first group stage match, the federation can call up a replacement from the wider preliminary squad, subject to FIFA medical approval and the tournament regulations.
Before official publication, the squad tracker table below should be treated as a squad-list tracker: it shows which teams already have preliminary squad data now, while still keeping projected names separate from final confirmed rosters. After final squads are confirmed, the same permalink switches from announcement tracking to a team-by-team official squad list index without changing the page URL.

World Cup 2026 Squad List FAQ
Answers for search questions about World Cup 2026 squad lists, final roster dates, injury replacements and team squad pages.
When are final World Cup 2026 squads published?
The official FIFA deadline for all 48 nations to submit final squad lists is June 2, 2026 - nine days before the tournament opens with Mexico vs South Africa on June 11. Some federations will announce their squads earlier, but no list is considered final and binding until it is formally registered with FIFA.
Are preliminary squad lists final squads?
No. What most nations publish before the deadline are preliminary or provisional squads - larger lists from which the final 26 will be selected. These lists also help explain who may be eligible for emergency injury replacement before a team's first match.
Where can I see each team's squad?
Every team in the tracker table has an Open squad list link that takes you directly to that nation's squad page. Each page includes the preliminary squad data before June 2 or confirmed squad after June 2, positional breakdown, coach profile, injury updates, fixture schedule and where-to-watch information.
Can injured players be replaced after the squad is announced?
Yes - but only under specific conditions. If a player in the confirmed 26 suffers a serious injury or illness before their nation plays its first group stage match, the federation can request a replacement from FIFA. Once a team has played its first match, no squad changes are permitted.
How many players can each team bring to World Cup 2026?
Each nation can bring between 23 and 26 players to the tournament. All squads must include a minimum of three goalkeepers. This is larger than the traditional 23-man squad used in previous tournaments.
Which teams have already confirmed their World Cup 2026 squads?
This tracker does not mark a squad as final until official final roster confirmation is available. Preliminary squad data is shown separately, then updated when reliable squad announcements are published.
What happens if a player is injured during the tournament?
Once a team has played its first group stage match, the squad is locked and no replacements are permitted - even for injury. If a player is injured or becomes ill mid tournament, the coaching staff must manage with the remaining players in the squad.
